Dental Hygiene: Interview and Selection

If your application to study is accepted, we will invite you for an interview. An offer to study with us will only be made after a successful interview.

All invitations to interview are issued through UCAS. Below you will find important information about the interview.

The interviews for our Dental Hygiene programme will take place during the week of Monday 7th April – Friday 11th April 2025.

  • Dates: Monday 7th April – Friday 11th April
  • Location: School of Health Sciences, Fron Heulog, Bangor, LL57 2EF

You will need to arrive no late than 08.45am for the morning dates and no later than 12:45pm promptly for the afternoon interview dates, we will send you the information about the date and time through UCAS.

Please respond to your interview invitation via UCAS within two weeks via one of the following options:

  • Register to attend the interview
  • Select "I cannot attend" and await alternative dates
  • Contact us at health.applications@bangor.ac.uk to discuss other options.

Failure to respond within two weeks of the interview invitation being issued may result in your application being made unsuccessful.

If none of the available dates work for you, select "I cannot attend these dates". We will make every effort to offer an alternative slot, however availability cannot be guaranteed. Missing all available dates may result in your application being unsuccessful - attending an interview is a requirement for the selection process.

Preparing for Your Interview

Review the course profile and be familiar with the Standards outlined in the GDC Standards for the Dental Team. It is beneficial to reference any work experience (paid or voluntary) in the health or social care field. Consider organising relevant experience prior to your interview.

Dress appropriately for a professional setting. Smart clothing is recommended, though we want you to feel comfortable.

If you require accommodations (e.g. additional time, large print materials) or have accessibility requirements, please contact us at least 48 hours before the interview.

What Happens During the Interview?

The interview day will begin with a presentation on the Diploma in Dental Hygiene program, outlining expectations and opportunities.

Please ensure that you bring following:

  • Proof of identity: Passport or driving license (original documents only)
  • Proof of qualifications: GCSE Maths, Science and English certificates (original documents only - photocopies not accepted)

We will assess your qualities, values, and motivation for the course, with a focus on how you demonstrate understanding of person-centred care and intelligent kindness. These will be assessed using series of mini-interview stations, each lasting 5 minutes. You will be given reading time and the opportunity to take notes prior to each station. What Happens After the Interview?

We will contact you through UCAS with the outcome of your interview.  While we endeavour to contact applicants as soon as possible, we will be holding a large number of interviews and decisions may take 2-3 weeks. If you are successful at interview, it is important that you read any conditions of the offer and instructions on what to do next carefully. It is important that you respond to any requests for information within specified time frames. All offers will be subject to satisfactory DBS and health checks.

Applicants who have been successful at interview will be notified through UCAS and are asked to read the important information which explains the next stages of the admissions process for this course.

If your application has been unsuccessful and you would like some feedback you are welcome to contact us to request this. You can request feedback on your application and/or interview within 6 weeks of the decision. To do this, please email us, making sure to  include the following information:

  • Full name (as it appears on your application)
  • UCAS Personal Identification Number (if your application was made through UCAS)
  • Date of birth
  • Name of course applied for
  • Interview date
