Within the area of Sport and Exercise Sciences we draw on over 40 years of experience in delivering related undergraduate degree programmes and were one of the first Sport and Exercise Science Schools to offer a Master's programme. We pride ourselves on offering a real transformational journey during your studies. You'll have many exciting ‘hands on’ experiences in the laboratory or the sport, health, exercise and coaching environment. Our research-led curriculum, covers the core Sport and Exercise Science topics of physiology, psychology, exercise health and medicine, biomechanics, and effective coaching, and will give you the knowledge and skills required for both a practical or research career in the expanding sport, health, exercise, and adventure markets.
We are proud of our independent, external quality indicators but our students often tell us that what they really value is that they are part of a small, friendly environment and benefit from high student-staff contact time. At Bangor University, you’ll be studying at one of the best Sport Science departments in the UK with particular specialisms in:
- Elite Sports Performance
- Physical Activity, Health and Wellbeing
- Adventure Sport Science
- Physical Education
- Sport and Exercise Psychology
We provide world leading and cutting-edge research to the Sport and Exercise markets which directly informs our curriculum. Meaning you will be taught the most recent and exciting content during your degree in the most innovative methods possible. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved with these exciting and world-leading research activities. On a research expedition to the Nepal Himalayas, the Extremes Research group studied how people react and adapt their performance in extreme environments. Our Institute for the Psychology of Elite Performance have been leading research within the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) and UK Sport to inform their Talent Identification and development programmes.
All our staff are research-active and work with the highest levels of sports performers and medical experts in the UK and worldwide. This expertise means we have strong links with highest echelons of both the sport performance and health sectors. This research ethos drives both quality critical thinking and what and how you will learn. You’ll develop skills to generate cutting-edge questions of your own whilst also having the skills to design methods to answer these questions. Put simply, you’ll be taught the skills required to think and work independently together with the know-how and confidence to continue to learn and lead on knowledge development once graduated; essential skills to ‘future proof’ your development in any chosen career path (critical skills for any career).
