Overview
Indicative Course Content: -Principles and legal framework of investigating crime in England and Wales -Crime Scene preservation; evidence gathering including interviews with suspects, search and entry powers, etc -Interviewing Suspects – the PEACE process -Investigation processes for specific types of crime – e.g. hate crime, domestic violence, public order, etc -Features of complex investigations – fraud, organised crime, sexual offending and the range of specialists and resources available -Victims and witnesses and their needs -Effectiveness of investigating complex cases and strategies to improve them -Different types of response policing; processes and legal frameworks of stop and search powers -Responding to major incidents including counter-terrorism -Partnership working in response policing -Frameworks and legal responsibilities in community policing -Policing the roads principles and responsibilities
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an ability to give a detailed explanation of the importance of effective community policing and an in depth examination of the relevant legislative frameworks - Learning outcome 5
- Develop the ability to discuss and examine the role of information and intelligence in policing and the legal framework for collecting, holding and sharing data - Learning outcome 3
- To be able to explain in depth the relevant processes and legislation relating to conducting a professional police investigation and collecting evidence including through effective interviewing, data gathering, and safeguarding of vulnerable victims and witnesses - Learning outcome 1
- To engage in effective response policing and critically evaluate its importance at all levels - from stop and search processes to major incidents, recognising the importance of partnership working in the context of response policing and comprehend the legal framework ad processes applying to all levels of response policing - Learning outcome 2
- To understand and critically review counter-terrorism policing functions in a national and local context and
to take appropriate action in relation to terrorism incidents - Learning outcome 4
