Overview
The primary focus of this module is to enhance your ability to communicate effectively through visual means. The module will cover various techniques, such as perspective, isometric and orthographic sketching, as well as line weights and rendering. Additionally, sketch modelling and prototyping will be utilised as part of the iterative design process.
To support these practical skills, you will receive a general workshop induction, which will include health and safety guidance, as well as individual induction on the machinery within the workshop. Throughout the module, you will engage in a series of short, varied design challenges and briefs, providing opportunities to apply and develop these skills in different contexts.
The module emphasises communication through visual means, covering a range of techniques. These include perspective, isometric and orthographic sketching, as well as line weights and rendering. Additionally, it delves into sketch modelling and the importance of prototyping within the iterative design process. Practical skills are also emphasised, with components such as a general workshop induction, health and safety guidance, and individual inductions on workshop machinery. Throughout the module, students engage in a series of short, varied design challenges and tackle design briefs in diverse contexts to enhance their understanding and application of visual communication in design.
Assessment Strategy
-excellent -A- to A+ (70%+): Outstanding Performance. The relevant information accurately deployed. Excellent grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practice elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Strong evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
-good -B- to B+ (60-69%): Very good performance Most of the relevant information accurately deployed. Good grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
-another level-C- to C+ (50-59%): Much of the relevant information and skills mostly accurately deployed. Adequate grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Fair integration of theory/practice/information in the pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Some evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
-threshold -D- to D+ (40-49%): No major omissions or inaccuracies in the deployment of information/skills. Some grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Integration of theory/practice/information present intermittently in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives.
