Overview
The course content includes - Local and national policies and guidelines in relation to medicines management Legal and ethical issues, including capacity, consent and record-keeping Legal requirements of various prescription formats such as PGDs, PSDs, remote prescribing and off-label prescribing The prescribing, dispensing, administering, storing and disposal of medications How to effectively use the British National Formulary to ensure patient safety Governance and incident reporting Medication administration errors and learning through reflection Adverse drug reactions, side effects and allergies Accountability and duty of candour Different classifications of medicines and implications for nursing practice Routes and preparations Polypharmacy Evaluating and monitoring the effect of medications

- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of safe and effective administration and optimisation of medicines in accordance with local and national policies
- Demonstrate the numerical skills to undertake drug calculations for the safe administration of a range of medicines
