Overview

This module will develop the student’s understanding of the complexity of care within mental health context and equip them with the skills required in nursing complex individuals as the student prepares for registration. The module will foster practical skills of life-long learning and continual professional development in leadership and management of care.

Public Mental Health policy and practice Global Mental Health care and social inequalities Social and medical prescribing in mental health care Care Coordination for mental health care Safeguarding, risk management and evaluation for healthcare improvement in mental health care Mental Health Recovery Coordinating physical and mental health needs Working with third sector and other organisations in mental health care e.g. housing Primary mental health care services Secondary mental health care services Local and national mental health policy and guidelines Mental health law and ethics Psychosocial interventions for complex mental health needs Working with Psychological Therapy services and interventions Social inclusion and social capital in mental health care Promote recovery and rehabilitation in mental health care

Assessment Strategy

-threshold -Grades: D- to D+ Understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and the outcomes being assessed. Students will be required to achieve a minimum of D- grade in the assignment to in order to pass.

Learning Outcomes

• Critically apply the evidence base relating to the psychological, sociological and complex interventions used to improve the wellbeing of people with complex problems in mental health nursing.

• Critically consider and apply a range of legal and ethical issues related to quality improvement in complex care management in mental health nursing

• Critically examine and debate the policies, principles and risk management issues informing the delivery of complex patient care in mental health nursing

• Demonstrate critical awareness of leadership and management in mental health nursing
