Overview

The module may include, but will not be limited to: The foundations of the Christian faith: the New Testament, teachings of Jesus and the Early Church; The various denominations of Christianity; Various aspects of Christian theology, including the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and Christology; Christianity in the modern world; The themes of baptism and the communion; Christianity in contemporary society: Christian charities and the practicalities of being a Christian in a non-Christian society.

Learning Outcomes

• Be aware of the mixed nature of the Christian faith and of the historical, denominational and cultural differences between Christians.

• Demonstrate an awareness of the Christian faith and its practice, as well as an understanding of the main methodologies and approaches to study Christianity.

• Demonstrate an understanding of Christin theology, in addition to an understanding of key matters that face contemporary Christians.

• Demonstrate an understanding of how Christianity as a faith links to wider social, cultural and political contexts.

• Demonstrate an understanding of the development of the historical and conceptual importance of Christian core sources: the Old Testament and the New Testament, and the role they play in synthesising Christian belief and practice.
