Rhagolwg
I am currently employed as a Scientific Officer on the SEACAMS2 (Sustainable Expansion of Applied Coastal And Marine Sectors) project, run from the Centre for Applied Marine Sciences, within the School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University. SEACAMS2 is a multi-disciplinary project and my role within the geological resources group is to work alongside companies within the marine renewable energy sector in Wales to address research questions specific to the industry. This is primarily acheived through collaborative projects that involve the sharing of information/data, multiple fieldwork and ship campaigns and a variety of project specific outputs. Prior to SEACAMS2 I was involved in its predessor, SEACAMS (2014-2016) which was tasked with promoting the use of the marine environment across the entire sector, from marine energy to co-steering to community science projects. My role within both of these projects is to utilise geophysical and sedimentological expertise and data to assist companies working (or hoping to) within the marine environment.
Through my work with SEACAMS I have become interested in shallow marine and coastal zone dynamics and the consequences of sediment transport (or erosion) and storm events on the vulnerable barrier between land and sea. In particular the interaction between waves, tides and sediments in relation to sediment transport and supply.
Prior to returning to Bangor University in 2014 I returned to the family farm in north east Wales and started a business growing Welsh blueberries and producing blueberry related products. With a steady influx of Bangor University students to help pick the crop the business grew quickly and before long the products were in stores nationwide. Literally from field to Harvey Nichols.
