- Fostering a stronger sense of community through local energy projects
My blog responding to to Community Energy Wales' State of the Sector Report. Community energy projects involve communities collaborating to create, implement, and reap the rewards of sustainable energy solutions. Being part of such projects enhances the experience of being part of a community, one that works together for the common good, building something positive and lasting for the future. The report Community Energy Wales State of the Sector 2024 highlights progress made in Wales and makes a strong case for communities to be at the heart of the energy transition.

For Bangor Business School’s final Welsh language episode of its Penny for your Thoughts podcast mini-series, host Darren Morely (Business Link Manager) is joined by Dr Martin Hanks (City Director, Bangor City Council), and Bangor Business School academics Carl Mathers (Senior Lecturer in Marketing) and Dr Edward Thomas Jones (Senior Lecturer in Economics) to celebrate the City of Bangor in its 1500 year.
Guests reflect back on how Bangor City Centre has changed over the years, impacted by the movement of stores to its outskirt retail parks from what was a once bustling city centre; proud of its claim as having the longest high street in Wales. Carl and Ed unpack this, presenting an optimistic view of its future and sees this as an opportunity for reinventing the city centre into a creative and innovative space.
They offer this as an opportunity for asking of the community; What do we want Bangor to be now? How can we use its history, Welsh culture and heritage to shape Bangor into a space that brings together and re-connects its community and businesses together?
