Addysgu ac Arolygiaeth
Proffil Personol
Graddiodd Mike Beverley o Brifysgol John Moores Lerpwl yn 1995 ar ôl astudio yno fel myfyriwr hŷn, ac yn ddiweddarach cwblhaodd ei astudiaethau ôl-radd yma ym Mangor. Bu’n rhan o’r tîm Dulliau Ymchwil ym Mangor er 1996, gan ddysgu myfyrwyr am ystadegau a sut i ddefnyddio’r pecyn meddalwedd SPSS. Mae Mike hefyd yn frwd dros ddysgu’r Gymraeg ac wedi penderfynu dysgu’r iaith i safon fel y gall sgwrsio’n rhwydd â siaradwyr Cymraeg brodorol.
Mae’n mwynhau ei waith gyda brwdfrydedd mawr.
“Ym mha broffesiwn arall allwn i helpu myfyrwyr i ddysgu pethau diddorol (fel ystadegau a Dysgu Manwl); gweithio gyda phlant mewn ysgolion sy’n methu’n academaidd i’w helpu i gau’r bwlch rhyngddynt hwy a’u cyfoedion; a chael cyfle i ddysgu pethau newydd bob dydd (a hynny ar gyflog llawn). Dyna beth yw pleser mewn bywyd – La Dolce Vita.”
Diddordebau Dysgu
Mae Mike yn dysgu modiwlau i bob un o’r tair blynedd o israddedigion ac i fyfyrwyr Meistr. Mae’n Drefnydd Modiwl i’r modiwl ‘Dulliau Ymchwil’ ym Mlwyddyn Un; mae holl fyfyrwyr y flwyddyn gyntaf yn cymryd hwn yn semester dau. Yn ogystal mae’n Drefnydd Modiwl a darlithydd ar fodiwl arbenigol i flwyddyn tri – Dulliau Ymddygiadol Addysg Seiliedig ar Dystiolaeth. Mae’r modiwl hwn yn edrych ar ddulliau addysgu a brofwyd drwy ymchwil ac mae llawer o fyfyrwyr sy’n cymryd y modiwl wedi mynd ymlaen i wneud hyfforddiant pellach i gymhwyso’n athrawon.
Enillodd y cymhwyster Addysgu mewn Addysg Uwch (tHE) yn 2003 ac mae’n aelod o Academi Cymrodyr Dysgu’r Brifysgol; yn 2009 derbyniodd Gymrodoriaeth Addysgu i gydnabod ei gyfraniad eithriadol i addysgu a gofal bugeiliol.
Diddordebau Ymchwil
Yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf mae ei ddiddordebau ymchwil wedi canolbwyntio ar ddefnyddio dadansoddi ymddygiad ym maes addysg ac, yn fwy penodol, defnyddio Dysgu Manwl a Dysgu Uniongyrchol. Mae Mike yn goruchwylio myfyrwyr israddedig a Meistr gyda’u projectau ymchwil ac yn aml cynhelir y projectau hyn mewn ysgolion lleol gyda phlant sy’n methu’n academaidd (e.e. mathemateg, ysgrifennu, sillafu a darllen). Mae wedi cynnal gweithdai hyfforddi mewn Dysgu Manwl ym Mhrydain, Sbaen, Yr Eidal a Norwy ac wedi cyflwyno ei ymchwil mewn cynadleddau rhyngwladol EABG, EABA ac ABAI.
Mae Mike yn aelod o fwrdd golygyddol yr European Journal of Behavior Analysis ac mae hefyd yn olygydd ymgynghorol i’r Journal of Precision Teaching.

Diddordebau Ymchwil
Sefydliad Cydweithredol dros Ymchwil i Addysg, Tystiolaeth ac Effaith(CIEREI).
Mae CIEREI yn sefydliad cydweithredol, dwyieithog ac aml-ddisgyblaethol i greu tystiolaeth ymchwil gyda'r prif nod o gael effaith gadarnhaol ar ddysgu a lles plant drwy ysgolion. Mae CIEREI yn bartneriaeth strategol rhwng GwE, Prifysgol Bangor (a arweinir gan yr Ysgolion Addysg a Seicoleg), awdurdodau addysg lleol, ysgolion, Prifysgol Warwick (CEDAR), swyddfa Comisiynydd Cenedlaethau'r Dyfodol yng Nghymru, a budd-ddeiliaid eraill yr ymddiriedwyd iddynt y gwaith o wella canlyniadau addysgol a lles ein plant. Prif nod CIEREI yw cefnogi gwella canlyniadau i blant drwy ysgolion, a chyfrannu at addysg athrawon ac adeiladu gallu i weithredu’n rhanbarthol drwy ymchwil ar y cyd ac agos at ymarfer.
Mae CIEREI hefyd yn ymateb strategol i sicrhau bod Prifysgol Bangor yn rhoi arweiniad cryf i ddatblygu ymchwil ar lefel ryngwladol sy'n goleuo dulliau addysgu ac yn sail i hyfforddiant y genhedlaeth nesaf o athrawon yng Nghymru. Mae CIEREI yn ymateb strategol ac uchelgeisiol i'r weledigaeth a ddisgrifiwyd gan Yr Athro Donaldson (Llywodraeth Cymru, 2015a) a'r Athro Furlong (Furlong, 2015) yn ymwneud â swyddogaeth prifysgolion a'r newid y bydd angen ei wneud i adeiladu economi addysg wedi'i seilio ar ymchwil yng Nghymru.
Yn y tymor canol i'r tymor hir, nod CIEREI yw cyflawni hyn drwy adeiladu cymuned ymchwil fywiog sy'n adeiladu'r sylfaen sy'n bwydo'n uniongyrchol i ymarfer addysgol cyfredol, rhaglenni hyfforddiant cychwynnol athrawon (HAGA) a datblygiad proffesiynol parhaus athrawon. Bydd hyn yn helpu i sicrhau bod holl athrawon newydd gymhwyso'n deall ymchwil, ymarfer ar sail tystiolaeth orau, a bydd yn helpu i feithrin 'ffordd gwyddonydd-ymarferwr o feddwl' mewn mannau addysgol. Mae gan CIEREI statws 'Sefydliad' o fewn y system brifysgol oherwydd un o'i brif swyddogaethau fydd dod â grwpiau a chanolfannau presennol sy'n gwneud gwaith ymchwil perthnasol i addysg ynghyd i weithio ar y cyd ac yn strategol gydag GwE ac ysgolion (e.e. Canolfannau Ymyrraeth Gynnal ar Sail Tystiolaeth, Canolfan Ymchwil ac Ymarfer Ymwybyddiaeth Ofalgar, Canolfan Dyslecsia Miles, Canolfan Dwyieithrwydd, Labordy Llythrennedd Bangor).

- Methods for the effective measurement of academic performance.
Norwegian behavioral Association invite : Professional conference : Effective efforts in school - How to work with academic difficulties and behavioral problems University College in Oslo and Akershus 24 and 25 January 2014 Effektiv effort in school In an interview with NRK points Pisa CEO Andreas Schleicher on key issues in the Norwegian school (see box below) . The conference " Effective efforts in schools" addresses these challenges and will present appropriate methods and tools to meet them. (NRKs nettsider 20.08.2013) Anne Arnesen and Wilhelm Meek - Hansen working with PALS model at Behavioural Centre in Oslo will present a knowledge-based and updated overview of the correlation between students' academic and behavioral difficulties, and how the system level in each school can work to prevent and remedy such difficulties . It is possible to make the learning experience manageable and positive for students though teachers have expectations and demands for achievement. The lecturers Jennifer Austin and Michael Beverly of Wales will present methods for mapping behavioral problems and methods for effective teaching of basic skills such as literacy and numeracy . It will also be presented how ICT can be used especially in literacy in an efficient and exciting way - for both the student , teacher and parents. Good reading skills are especially important for success in school , both academically and socially Also presented a work where pupils in primary schools have received additional training in mathematics, and concludes with a review of key elements of classroom management and the relationship between teacher and students . From NRK interview with Andreas Schleicher , head of the international PISA studies : - In Norway it is not that large differences in the schools , but the big problem is that there are enormous differences in student achievement at each school. PISA boss points out that the Norwegian school fails to provide special immigrant students and disadvantaged children and young people the education that allows them to truly reach their potential. - It often happens in Norway is that teachers lowers the expectations and requirements of pupils with a difficult or challenging backgrounds. They make teaching easy for them and says : " You who have had it tough , should not have to be so difficult here ." It's a crazy recipe, says Schleicher . ( NRK's website 20.08.2013 )
