Cwblhaodd Dr Rees ei BA, MA a PhD mewn Hanes ym Mhrifysgol Cymru, Aberystwyth. Fel Uwch Ddarlithydd mewn Hanes Modern yn Ysgol Hanes, y Gyfraith a Gwyddorau Cymdeithas, mae gwaith dysgu Dr Rees yn canolbwyntio ar hanes Prydain yn y bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg. Cwblhaodd ei Thystysgrif Ôl-raddedig mewn Addysg Uwch ym Mhrifysgol Bangor, ac mae’n Gymrawd Hŷn o’r Academi Addysg Uwch. Mae ei diddordebau ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar Gymru’r ddeunawfed ganrif a’r bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg, yn enwedig hanes y bonedd ac ystadau. Mae Dr Rees wedi cyhoeddi ar dadolaeth a phrotest yng nghefn gwlad Cymru, Terfysgoedd Beca, y stiward tir, cyfoeth newydd a mudoledd cymdeithasol, a Cymry yn preswylio yn India.
