Overview

In this course, you will explore the fundamental concepts, theories, and debates in moral philosophy and develop a deeper understanding of the ethical frameworks that underpin our moral judgments.

As part of this module, you will undertake an independent research project on a topic of your choice related to ethical theory. You will receive guidance and support from experienced supervisors, who will help you to develop your research skills and navigate complex ethical debates.

Possible topics for your research project might include metaethics, normative ethics, applied ethics, virtue ethics, deontological ethics, consequentialist ethics, or any other aspect of moral philosophy that interests you.

Assessment Strategy

-threshold -(D) Some consideration given to planning and structure, limited in depth of analysis and use of research, but demonstrating some understanding of the subject matter.

-good -(B) Shows significant insight, offers sustained and relevant analysis, well researched and referenced and written with a clear structure and style.

-excellent -(A) Demonstrates excellence in power of analysis, argument, originality, range of research, organisation and stylistic quality.

Learning Outcomes

• Design and undertake a programme of detailed research leading to the written presentation of conclusions in the form of an essay

• Participate in curent debates concerning issues relating to philosophy and or religious studies.

• Read critically both primary and secondary texts relating to specific and abstract principles of philosophy and or religious studies

• Structure a complex argument, in essay form, relating to philosophical and or religious issues of contemporary concern
