Why Bangor?
Wales was my priority when I decided to come to the UK for higher education. Bangor, as one of the best Universities in the UK and its recognition and prestige in Wales caught my eye and I started my research on Bangor University. I quickly realised that I wanted to be in this university because of its blend of modern and historical architecture, quality of teaching and especially life in Bangor, giving me an opportunity to live close to nature and waking up to the breath-taking landscapes of North Wales every day, as the most beautiful region of the UK.
The International Ambassador Scheme
As an international student moving to a different place, especially a new country for studies, can be very challenging. To overcome these challenges as an existing international student who has already gone through this phase, I can now help other international students by sharing my experiences, tips, and life-hacks that I have learnt. My motivation for becoming an ambassador is my willingness to help other students and to not let them face the challenges I have faced. So, as an international student, instead of being afraid of these challenges and fear of leaving home they can have the best time of their student life, so that together we can encourage more students to study abroad for a life changing experience.
The most difficult thing about being an International Student?
Being an international student is not an easy job, leaving the comfort of your house, leaving your family and friends, and moving to an entirely new country with no friends, family, and home comforts. You miss your family, friends and you must do your own chores, cook food, wash dishes, study, and work at the same time and this could be really exhausting at times.
The Course
I love the concept of business and digging up the world’s best businesses to find out how they operate, how they make money and how businesses started as start-ups and become successful. My course has a combination of all these exciting modules, which allows me to do research, building reports and business portfolios, giving me a clear understanding of the important aspects of my field and to be competitive in the business market.
The School
Bangor Business School has one of the coolest university buildings, and most cooperative lecturers who are always available to help. Its reputation is that of one of the best Business Academic schools in the UK.
Clubs and Societies
Yes! I am a member of Bangor Athletics Union and have experienced being a player of the Bangor Men’s Cricket Team. I am also part of the Bangor Photographic and International Society. I love travelling and exploring, landscape photography, nights out, hiking, cycling, and working out.
Bangor and the area
It's very hard to choose only one great thing about living in Bangor, as the list is never ending, but I can say adventures and life in Bangor are the best! You have Snowdon right on your doorstep and many other mountains to climb, the best beaches of the region are easily accessible and the fact that Bangor is a small city means you get to know everyone quickly, and streets do not feel like they are filled with strangers. Hence it is easier to socialise with everyone. When I leave, I will miss everything! The mountains, beaches, people and especially our university.
Support from the University
I can very proudly say that Bangor University is the best student University in the UK. I made a difficult decision and took a leap of faith and left everything behind during Covid times, which wasn’t ideal, but the amount of support I have received from Bangor University and continue to do so is exceptional! Whether it's free accommodation and free food during quarantine or whether it’s in the form of having financial help from the hardship fund or Covid support fund during the pandemic. I cannot be more privileged to be a student at Bangor University.
Advice for new International students
My advice for prospective students would be is to do thorough research about Bangor before coming, check what the weather is like in Bangor, what clothes do you need to bring, which accommodation would be most convenient for you to live and how far is it from your academic school. Plan for your adventures and the best life here in Bangor.
The Future
After completing my undergraduate studies from Bangor University, my aim is to secure a job or an internship with companies in the UK, like Airbus, Unilever, British Airways or Rolls Royce, in their business and communication sectors, to get hands on experience and apply for my postgraduate course most likely at Bangor University again.
