Why Bangor
I got to know about Bangor University from my research and chose the university because it is one of the best in the UK in terms of student support, ‘after graduation’ prospects and the best in Wales for my course.
The International Ambassador Scheme
Schooling away from home is not an easy one. The international Ambassador scheme helps to create another home away from home. It gives support and helps students settle in by creating programs to make them feel welcomed and at home. It also provides advice on clubs and societies to join in a bid to bring about a vibrant university experience and help students integrate correctly into the university community. I am joining the scheme to use my experience in alleviating the possible downs that incoming students might be prone to, by introducing measures that would boost their experience, from their recruitment, down to their settling-in.
What is the most difficult thing about being an International student?
As an international student, I had my ups and downs. The most difficult thing about being an international student is settling in.
The course
Social Policy is all about societal development, taking into cognisance the economic, social and political factors. The interesting thing about my course is that it is both an academic discipline and an ideology upon which the government of nations introduce reforms for development.
The lecturers
The course is in the academic school of History, Philosophy and Social Science and the lecturers and my tutor are very supportive. They make sure you understand what is expected of you and make you believe you can do better than you think.
Clubs and Societies
I am involved with the Afro Caribbean Society, where I get to meet people who share the same culture. I love dancing, and it is an opportunity for me to meet new people and to socialise.
Bangor and the area
The serenity, the calmness, the aesthetics, the mountains and hills, the sea, the beautiful people that supported me and made my stay worthwhile.
The best thing about Bangor
Getting a good quality of life at a competitive cost. I save a lot on transportation as it is a small city with a walking distance to school, train station, supermarket, banks and the town is less industrialised, making the environment healthy and pollution-free.
Support from the University
The lecturers and my tutor have been very supportive
Advice for new international students
For prospective students, Bangor is the best place to be.
