Wythnos y Pasg 2024 yng Nghadeirlan Bangor
Yn y fan lle croeshoeliwyd ef yr oedd gardd, ac yn yr ardd yr oedd bedd newydd nad oedd neb erioed wedi ei roi i orwedd ynddo. Felly, gan ei bod yn ddydd Paratoad i’r Iddewon, a chan fod y bedd hwn yn ymyl, rhoesant Iesu i orwedd ynddo. • Ioan 19:41–42
Y mae Cyd-gyfarwyddwyr Canolfan Ymchwil R.S. Thomas, Yr Athro Jason Walford Davies (Pennaeth Adran y Gymraeg ac Astudiaethau Celtaidd) a’r Athro Emeritws Tony Brown (gynt o’r Adran Saesneg ac Ieithyddiaeth), wedi curadu casgliad arbennig o gerddi anghyhoeddedig gan R.S. Thomas – darnau a ddewiswyd o blith y cannoedd o gerddi o’r fath a geir yn archif gynhwysfawr y Ganolfan. Bydd y rhain yn cael eu gosod ar gerddoriaeth gan y cyfansoddwr Alex Mills, a chaiff y darn newydd hwn ei berfformio am y tro cyntaf yng Nghadeirlan Bangor ar 29 Mawrth 2024, sef Dydd Gwener y Groglith, am 6pm.
Yr oedd R.S. Thomas (1913–2000) yn offeiriad yn yr Eglwys yng Nghymru, yn ffigwr diwylliannol o bwys, ac yn un o feirdd mawr yr ugeinfed ganrif. Graddiodd ym Mangor yn 1935. Sefydlwyd Canolfan Ymchwil R.S. Thomas yn 2000 gan y Cyd-gyfarwyddwyr, ac fe’i cydnabyddir yn rhyngwladol fel y brif ganolfan academaidd ar gyfer astudio gwaith y bardd, ynghyd ag eiddo ei wraig, yr arlunydd M.E. Eldridge (1909–91).
